Transportation to Seward Alaska

Train

The train comes to Seward everyday during the summer which is approximately Memorial Day to Labor Day. The trip is about four hours. (worth every minute of it) It is scheduled to get to Seward at 11:05 a.m., (in time for most of the tours) and leave 6:00 p.m. with the same idea in mind. It is a very enjoyable ride that allows everyone to relax and watch the dynamic scenery. When wildlife is spotted, the train will slow down or come to a stop to allow everyone an opportunity to get pictures, etc. You can book this directly through Alaska Railroad, the price is $62.00 for adults, one way. Ferry

The ferry comes into Seward weekly. From Seward you can go to Kodiak, Homer, Dutch Harbor, or the Aleutian Islands. It varies and changes how often it goes to each location. Ferry trips to places like Dutch Harbor and the Aleutian Islands are for people who have a lot of time. Much of these two trips are spent on the open seas. Car Rental

We only have one car rental agency in Seward, be sure to plan ahead and have one reserved. A rental car can be difficult to find. Hertz, 907-224-4378 http://www.rentacaralaska.com/. Otherwise your best bet is to find a rental car in Anchorage. There are many agencies there. One that I have worked with and seems like a good company is Value Car Rental, run by James Stickely. Bus

The local bus, Seward Bus Lines, goes between Anchorage and Seward once a day. From Seward it leaves at 9:00 a.m. and arrives in Anchorage at 11:45 a.m. From Anchorage it leaves at 2:30 p.m. and arrives in Seward at 5:00 p.m. The cost is $40.00 one way and ½ price for children between three and eight with a full priced adult. Round trip is $75.00. It cost an additional $5.00 to be dropped off at the Anchorage Airport. They do not pick up at the airport. (Add 6% tax) For more information go to:

Two Dogs Truckin' & Transportation offers daily service from Seward to Anchorage and Whittier via the Seward Highway, "Alaska's All American Road". They depart Seward at 12:00 noon from in front of the Harbor Master's office in the Seward Small Boat Harbor. Drop off locations in Anchorage are the Diamond Mall and the Anchorage Airport. The fare to Anchorage is $50.00 per person. Arrival time is 2:30 pm in Anchorage unless there is a stop in Whittier. Then the Anchorage arrival time would be 4:00 pm. Drop off locations in Anchorage are The Diamond Mall and the Anchorage Airport. (Reservations are required from Anchorage, call for details.) The fare to Whittier is $75.00 per person. That also leaves Seward at 12:00 noon from in front of the Harbor Master's office in the Seward Small Boat Harbor. Arrival time in Whittier is 2:30 pm at the cruise ship terminal. Also Kenai Fjord Tours offers a bus service. There is an afternoon bus that leaves Anchorage at 3:00pm and arrives in Seward at 5:45pm. The morning bus leaves from Seward at 10:30am and arrives in Anchorage at 1:30pm. There is also an afternoon bus that leaves from Seward at 6:30pm and arrives in Anchorage at 9:00pm.
