One of the more popular experiences Seward offers is that it is the gateway to one of the most spectacular national parks in the country. Kenai Fjords National park is located approximately 4 miles west of Seward.
The park's spectacular scenery and wildlife may be viewed by daily private tour and charter boats. Tours range from 2 ½ hours to 10 hours. The shorter tours will take you around Resurrection Bay.
You will have an opportunity to view Bear Glacier, Eagles, Whales, Puffins, Sea Otters, Piedmont Glaciers & Alpine Glaciers.
The longer tours take you out into open ocean and then into Ailak Bay. Here you will find many larger tidewater glaciers with scenic mountains surrounding them, along with more wildlife.
People regularly ask my opinion on what tour to take. This is my standard answer. Go on an all day tours, not a half day tour. A half day tour takes you around the bay. You will have a good chance of seeing wildlife, but not the majestic tidewater glaciers that calve into the ocean. All the tour companies pretty much go to the same places and do a great job, so next consider what size and kind of boat you want to go out on and if you would like a full buffet on the boat, a deli meal or a salmon bake at an island. Any tour that is 6 to 8 1/2 hours go to the same area and offer the samethings to see. The longer ones 7 3/4 to 8 1/2 are only longer because of the time it takes for the meal. The 9 hour tours actually go further into the fjords.
Attached is a list of times and costs of the tours that will take you to the spectacular Kenai Fjords National Park. Discounts are offered if lodging reservations are booked through Alaska's Point of View Reservation Service. Whenever possible, please make tour resevation at least a week in advance so there will be no last second problems .

Fishing
Halibut You'll have a great time fishing for halibut and rockfish in some of America's most beautiful waterways, Montague Island, Prince William Sound, Resurrection Bay Alaska. Sport-caught halibut are typically in the 20-40 pound weight range. However, fish over 100 pounds are frequently caught. The current Alaska State Record for a sport-caught halibut is 450 pounds.
Salmon Adult Coho generally weigh 8 to 12 pounds and are 24 to 30 inches long, although some larger than 30 pounds have been landed. They are described as spectacular fighters and as the most acrobatic of the Pacific salmon. Here are a couple of links to fishing charters that I feel do a great job. http://www.puffincharters.com/index.html http://www.innandoutcharters.com/

Flightseeing
Scenic flights and air taxi services are available at Seward's airport, just two miles north of town. See the Harding Icefield and all the nearby glaciers and fjords plus a wide variety of wildlife in a safe and comfortable small airplane. You haven't seen Alaska until you see it close up from the air. http://www.sewardair.com/, http://www.bearlakeair.com/
